Meet James Blair

James Blair is a long-time Pickering resident, educator, community leader, and advocate whose career has been dedicated to public service, responsible leadership, and strengthening the community he calls home. James, his wife, and their sons are proud to call the Amberlea community home, where they have built their lives and remained actively involved in local schools, youth programs, sports, and community organizations.

His commitment to education, youth development, environmental stewardship, and advocating for sound public policy before the Pickering City Council & the Region of Durham since 2010 has earned him the respect of students, families, colleagues, and community organisations throughout Durham Region.

"As a husband, father, educator, and longtime Ward 1 resident, James is committed to preserving the safe, family-oriented neighbourhoods that make Amberlea and the surrounding communities such exceptional places to live while ensuring future growth strengthens—not diminishes—the quality of life residents value."

Prepared to Put
Residents First at City Hall

James's diverse experiences have provided him with a unique understanding of the challenges facing municipalities today. His background in politics, economics, law, education, community development, and collaborative leadership has prepared him to make informed, balanced decisions that place residents first. He understands that responsible municipal government requires transparency, fiscal accountability, long-term planning, and a willingness to listen to the people a council is elected to serve.

James believes that growth should be guided by the community—not by developers—and that every decision made at City Hall should strengthen neighbourhoods, protect taxpayers, preserve valuable agricultural lands where possible, and improve the quality of life for current and future generations.

Your Ward 1 Voice for Accountability and Integrity

As Ward 1 Councillor, James Blair will bring more than two decades of leadership, proven collaboration, and practical problem-solving to City Council. His record of service demonstrates an ability to bring people together, build meaningful partnerships, and deliver lasting results. Above all, he is committed to serving the residents of Ward 1 with integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to ensuring that Pickering remains a vibrant, financially responsible, and welcoming community for generations to come.

Responsible & Transparent Government

To promote accountability, transparency, and openness, Pickering City Council meetings must be scheduled to maximize public participation, both in person and virtually.

Attracting Industry, Expanding Employment & Reducing the Tax Burden

In 2025, Ontario’s agri-food sector contributed nearly $51 billion to the province’s GDP. Pickering Council should prioritise agri-business, food security, and sustainability over continued urban expansion. Pickering does not need to follow the path of other GTA municipalities — it needs leadership with long-term vision.

Building a Healthy & Safe Pickering

Traffic calming measures and enhanced road safety initiatives must be implemented in residential areas and near schools. Securing our community's overall safety must be an ongoing priority.
